A body was found in the wheel well of a UnitedAirlines flight from Chicago to Maui. Maui Police Launched an investigation after crews found a body on the ground in the right wheel well of the plane.
The airline does not yet know how or when the person will enter the right wheel.
"A body was found in the wheel well of one of the main landing gear of a United Airlines flight that arrived at Kahului Airport in Maui on Tuesday,"United Airlines said in a statement to CNN.
A Maui Police Department spokesperson told a localHawaii news station that no details could be released publicly at this time.
"The Maui Police Department is currently searching for a deceased individual who was on a flight that departed from the mainland this afternoon," a department spokesperson said. - No additional details are available at this time.
The Independent has contacted the Maui PoliceDepartment for more information. But according to the FAA, the situation can often be fatal because stowaways can suffer severe hypothermia and lack of oxygen as the plane climbs. Stowaways can also be crushed to death when the landing gear is retractable.
About 120 million people will be away from home for the holidays this year, according to The Guardian and the agency estimates that will include airline passenger records.
